🍯🍗 Sesame Chicken Recipe

This Sesame Chicken is made with crispy fried chicken pieces tossed in a glossy sesame sauce that’s sweet, tangy, and perfectly balanced. It’s an easy homemade version that tastes better than takeout and comes together in under 40 minutes.

Ingredients
  

Chicken

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Oil for frying
Sesame Sauce
  • ¼ cup soy sauce (low sodium)
  • ¼ cup honey or brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp grated ginger (optional)
Garnish
  • 1 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Chopped green onions

Method
 

  1. Prepare the chicken: In a bowl, whisk egg with salt and pepper. Add chicken pieces and toss to coat.
  2. Coat the chicken: Mix cornstarch and flour together. Dredge chicken pieces until fully coated.
  3. Fry the chicken: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry chicken in batches for 4–5 minutes until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  4. Make the sauce: In a saucepan, whisk soy sauce, honey, vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, cornstarch, water, garlic, and ginger.Cook over medium heat until thick and glossy (3–4 minutes).
  5. Combine: Add fried chicken to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  6. Garnish & serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve hot.

  • Steamed white or fried rice
  • Lo mein or chow mein
  • Steamed broccoli or snap peas

Tips

  • For extra crispiness, double-fry the chicken
  • Air fryer option: cook coated chicken at 400°F for 12–14 minutes, flipping halfway
  • Adjust sweetness with more or less honey
