- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- Mix dry ingredients:In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
- Heat peanut butter mixture:In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and peanut butter.Bring just to a boil, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
- Combine wet and dry: Pour the hot peanut butter mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
- Add eggs and buttermilk:Mix in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
- Bake:Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.Cool slightly before frosting.
Make the Frosting:
- Heat the base:In a saucepan, melt butter and peanut butter together over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in milk and vanilla.
- Add sugar:Gradually stir in powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Adjust thickness with a little more milk if needed.
- Frost the cake: Spread the warm frosting over the slightly warm cake so it spreads easily and sets with a glossy finish.
