Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ cup creamy peanut butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3–3½ cups powdered sugar, sifted

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. Mix dry ingredients:In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Heat peanut butter mixture:In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and peanut butter.Bring just to a boil, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Combine wet and dry: Pour the hot peanut butter mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.
  5. Add eggs and buttermilk:Mix in buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla until smooth.
  6. Bake:Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.Cool slightly before frosting.
Make the Frosting:
  1. Heat the base:In a saucepan, melt butter and peanut butter together over medium heat. Remove from heat and whisk in milk and vanilla.
  2. Add sugar:Gradually stir in powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Adjust thickness with a little more milk if needed.
  3. Frost the cake: Spread the warm frosting over the slightly warm cake so it spreads easily and sets with a glossy finish.
